I have communicated with the teacher that I'm observing with. My cori is in the process of being approved in the next couple days. I have gone and visited my classroom once. The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly. When Amanda and I first walked in all three teachers welcomed us and introduced themselves. The main teacher we will be dealing with is Elisabeth Beane. While arriving the children were caught by surprise and didn't know how to react because we were unknown to the. Which is the response I was expecting. As we stayed longer I noticed that some children warmed up faster than the others. I've always had a way with children and they tend to flock to me. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see the classroom activities because the children had a pep rally for the super bowl. But I did see the project they had worked on which was patriot's helmets that they could wear and got to decorate themselves. I think I'm going to learn so much in this classroom setting and I can't wait to go back this week.
It sounds like you already learned a lot from your first short introduction visit. Being in the classroom will help you learn a lot about your major.
It seems as though you will enjoy your future observations, seeing that the students have started to warm up to you. Hopefully next time you will be able to see the classroom activities, and become more adapted to the classroom itself.
I have already been to my placement four times for an hour each time. Since I have already been there a total of 4 hours I have observed a lot. What I notice in the waiting room is its a lot of older people and most of them are asleep in the waiting room. When I am with my mom inside of the PT room my moms physical therapist always starts it off by using a heating pad. She then gives my mom 5 different strengthening exercises to do and all of them are 3 sets of 10. While my mom is doing the exercises my moms physical therapist is talking to us usually about her college and job experiences so far. I really enjoy being in this setting because I never get a negative vibe from it.
It is good that you have already been there couple of time. You also have good observations so far. It is also good that you get a positive vibe because it is always good to be positive.
That's really good that you've already had that much experience being there! It really puts you ahead of the game.
It’s great that ur staying ahead of everything already having multiple visits.
I think thats really great that you've already been there so many times so you have a good head start and have more time to observe everything.
Thats great you have had a good amount of experience at this site! Good luck!
Enjoying where you observe will make things more interesting for you
Wow! That's awesome! Keep up all the good work and keep visiting your site! Extra trips means extra info and an easier time formulating your paper.
For my project I will be going to MathWorks, I have already done my first visit. During my visit I stayed for an entire work day, which allowed me to see a lot. I noticed a lot of diversity in the employees there are many different races and languages spoken here. As I walk around the building I notice that each floor has a theme. To go along with that each conference room is named to go along with the theme. Adding to this is color; For example, the top floor of the building is themed “sky” so it has lots of blue accents. The walls are mostly white with lots of wood, images, and modern art on them. The building looks and smells very clean. It is a well-lit building, however some of the hallways that are filled with offices are dark. The people are friendly and there is a lot of noise in the cafeteria.
The way you describe your site, is very detailed and I could imagine the buildings and rooms as I read! This sounds like a great site and seems like you are going to have great observations and experiences here! Good luck!
I think its great that you stayed for an entire work day and the way you describe the ceiling and walls makes it very interesting! Good Luck
It's great that you liked your site and being able to stay for a day! Good luck with everything!
That's really good that you enjoy your site and its also really good you were able to stay for an entire work day
The site that I went to visit for the first time was the Burrell Elementary school. I have been emailing back and forth with the woman in charge named Elizabeth. The first time I went to visit the atmosphere was very inviting and bright. When I first met the teachers, they were welcoming me to the classroom. As I walked into the room the kids wanted to talk to me right away. I was expecting the kids to want to talk to me right away because I was a different person and they have not seen me before. As I stayed in the classroom for a while the kids started to feel comfortable with me and started talking to me. I did not stay long unfortunately but I am excited to go back again. I am going to love this classroom and I think I can learn a lot from the teachers and the atmosphere. I recently submitted a cori form for the school that is waiting to be approved. I cannot wait for them to approve it so I can go back in a spend more time with the kids.
It is great that you are excited to go back again! It seemed like you really enjoyed visiting the school.
I am happy you had such a great first visit at your site!
Today I went to go visit my site for the second time. The first time around, I met with the women who runs the preschool/daycare and she also gave me a tour! However, today was much more of an experience because I was able to actually sit down and talk with some of the kids. The atmosphere inside the Children's Workshop is just so happy and positive. Being there truly gave me peace of mind. I love listening to all the children communicate with each other. More specifically, at snack time they all sat around the same table mimicking one another and overall just learning new things about themselves and their environment. Something that I found really interesting was that for snack they had chips and salsa. Although I love chips and salsa I thought it was different that they'd be fed that at such a young age but to my surprise the kids really enjoyed it. In the end, after visiting today I have high hopes for the future and can't wait to go back!
It must be so interesting to hear the little conversations between the kids! It will help you writing your paper that you enjoyed your site so much!
I have recently visited my site The Children's Workshop twice now. The first time was just a tour of the school, so I didn't really get to observe anything. The second time around I got to observe a toddler room, which is the cutest room! When I got there, the kids were just waking up from nap. I noticed that a lot of them were grumpy and cried when they woke up, but as soon as they sat down for snack they cheered up. While I was there, a toddler got sick, so it was kind of hectic. I really enjoyed listening to their little conversations, and it made me really happy when visiting. I am very excited to go back next time.
It's great that you enjoyed your site so much!
I have been in contact with my site which is Whitman Hanson Regional High School. I have been emailing back and forth with the head of the guidance department and the secretary. I have been panning a visit and will be heading there this friday. I am excited to see if anything has changed since I graduated in june.
For my final project I am doing special Olympics for a team in Taunton Mass. I have done multiple visits to the place over the past month and have gotten to know everyone there. My last visit was Sunday where the team played in a tournament. My next visit will be Sunday for practice.
That's sounds very interesting. I had actually volunteered for a horse show for the Special Olympics myself. I look forward to hearing more about your experience!
I went to my school yesterday to check on my CORI and speak with the principal. The CORI will be ready by the end of the week but they have school vacation next week so I won't be able to start observations until the week after. I used to go to this school when I was younger and everyone was very welcoming and some of the teachers even remembered me so I think that they were more welcoming and happy to see a familiar face. The principal is very excited to have me in the classroom observing.
That sounds great! I also chose a school that I previously went to and it was nice to walk the hallways again but in a different perspective now. Good luck!
I will be observing my fifth grade teacher at the Jordan/Jackson Elementary School. As soon as my CORI form clears I will be able to start observing the classroom. I will be going home for the long weekend, so I plan to stop by the school to see how much longer it will take for the form to go through. Next week is the school’s February vacation, so I will not be able to observe that week. I am hoping to get a lot of hours in the classroom as soon as they get back from break!
Cori forms take about a week to go through based on my experience. I hope you enjoy your time there and learn a lot! Good luck!
For another one of my courses I am in the process of a cori form and they take a while to clear but you have a good plan!
I will be going to observe the school psychologist Mr. Mahoney at the Central Elementary School in East Bridgewater for my project. I had been waiting to hear back from the assistant principle to confirm it, and she finally got back to me this week. I went into the school to fill out the cori form. Once that comes back, I will schedule my first visit as soon as possible. Unfortunately, since the school will be closed for vacation next week, I won't be able to go in until the week after.
I hope everything goes well with your project and you get to do your observations soon! Good Luck!
I recently went to observe for the first time in a college Precalculus class. As a math major, I'm in math classes every single day, but I always pay attention to the teacher and not as much to the students around me. I noticed that the same few people seemed to participate the most. I was vary surprised to see how many students were paying close attention to the subject matter. I would have expected in a class of at least 25 students, that more students would be distracted and sitting on their phones. However, there were only a few students I picked out that seemed a little distracted. The professor gave a quiz at the beginning of class, then taught for a while, and then the students did a worksheet at the end of class. I think observing more will only help me write my essay and learn about education and math.
The site I will be observing is the Waltham District Court. I have not yet gone to my site, but I am planning on going over the long weekend. I do not know what to expect when I walk into the court room, but I am really interested in what will happen while I am there. While I am at the court, I plan on writing out my observations, and then I will type them up just to be more organized with this project. I have planned to get a direct quote from the judge so I can later on use it in my essay. There will be a lot going on in a court room and I will have to focus on a lot of things at once, which will be difficult. As a criminal justice major, I am really excited to see the structure of the court and how everything comes together. These observations will help with not only this project, but also with classes that I will be taking in the future.
For my project I will be observing a classroom at Williams Intermediate School. I have not yet been able to go, due to the fact that the Education Office on campus has not contacted me about which room I will be observing. Hopefully I will be aware of which classroom by the end of this week, or the beginning of next week. I have already filled out the CORI Form, and turned it into the Education Department on campus. I hope that I will be notified of which classroom I will be observing sooner, rather than later, so I am able to observe as many times as I can.
I have committed to and have visited Raynham Middle School. I am working in a sixth grade classroom. So far I have noticed the students are very immature, as I expected, and that working in a middle school is just as much about teaching the subject as it is about teaching how to be a student. Organization skills, Study skills and test taking are just a few skills that the students need to learn in order to succeed in the rest of their schooling. Working in the middle school has made me want to pursue a career in teaching middle school rather than high school. I would be able to help more students and and coach a sport at the high school level.
I went to Raynham Middle School and it is a great school. The teachers are great as well but I do see where you are coming from with that age level being immature.
Its good you’ve realized what would best suit you, keep it up kid. Good Luck.
Cori form takes about a week from my experience. Hope it goes well and you enjoy your time there! Good luck!
My site is Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School. have already visited my project site once so far and it was not what I expected. I graduated last year and a lot has changed since then. My former teacher told me we had a great graduating class unlike the lower grades. The class is made up of sophomores learning geometry. The first thing I noticed was the amount of disrespect two of the students out of 12 had. Immediately, the students wondered who I was and my teacher explained to them what I was doing. One student told me good luck, after this class you will never want to become a teacher. I was appalled by the behavior of two certain students. Throughout the entire double period class (12:56-2:28) those students interrupted the class multiple times by shouting inappropriate comments, getting up out of their seat without asking, talking to the people around them and asking when the lesson was going to end because they were bored. This unfortunately affects the kids in the class that do want to learn and who are trying to pay attention. One student is a transfer and is having a hard time learning at the same math level as the other students and needs constant attention. The dynamics in the class are widely ranged and after observing what it’s like to be in that classroom, I can see how hard it is for the teacher to accommodate and discipline the students in the class at the same time. I hope as I continue to do my observations, the students will settle down and act like young adults.
For my site I'm doing a gym. I go there almost everyday to workout, but i decided to sit for about 20 minutes after my workout to observe everything going on. I saw a lot of different people. I have noticed the employees are very hardworking, friendly people. I kinda knew what to expect while going to visit my site, but i hope to learn more about it.
I went to observe Braintree High School today. I observed one of the preschool classrooms there. I know one of the teachers in the classroom and she welcomed me as well as introducing me to the other 2 teachers in the class. The kids were surprised to see me when I walked in, but they started to talk to me after they did story time. Everyone was so nice there and it was a great experience. I can't wait to go back again soon.
That is awesome!!
I have yet to visit my sight. I am observing an elementary school and the schedule conflicts with mine, therefore I have to go during spring break because that is the most convenient time for me, and the teachers at the school. I look forward to learning more about the classroom and get a better look at what I want to do in the future.
It must be tough with the time conflict.and just wanting to start the research.
I hope you get to go soon! I think you will really enjoy working with kids and seeing what its like to be a teacher in an elementary school! (:
I am observing a music class here at Bridgewater State. I have already visited my site and it was very interesting. Not everyone in that room were music major and they were very engaged in what the professor was saying
I haven't had a chance to get into my site yet. The head trainer and owner of the gym closed the gym until Tuesday due to wrestling tournment.
I have not been able to visit my site yet because I'm still waiting for my CORI form to go through. I have been in contact with my cousin and I hope to start next week when the kids get back from break.
I have visited my site which is Burlington Coat Factory in Bridgewater. I walked throughout the store observing the people and things that they sold. It was interesting to see the variety of brands and prices of the clothing, shoes and accessories.
I went to the Police Station in Boston which is located in the Jamaica Plain area. The station is in a fairly good neighborhood and area where the diversity is varied consisting of latinos, whites, and blacks. The station on the inside on the inside is not much. The first thing i saw on the inside was the most wanted list and the sex offenders list in the area and other locations in Boston. The inside also was very quiet because there was only two cops working the front desk on their computers. I couldnt get to the back where they place all their items maybe next time but from what i saw it was very clam and quiet. All their officers are on duty and seem to be doing their job.
Sorry I know this is super late, but I just got to go to my sight today for the first time because a lot of stuff came up last week. First of all, I learned that I absolutely should never trust my GPS, because it's just simply incorrect. When I finally did get to my location, I realized that there was a lot of traffic surrounding the area. When I first walked through the door, the security guard standing at the door said, "Uh oh, what happened" jokingly to me. Of course, I told him I was just there for research. Something really important that I noted was the amount of security when you first walked in. There was about 6 "No Cell-Phone" signs lining the front entrance, and there were two guards standing when you first walked into the front door. There were metal detectors and a place to check your bag. I was not surprised that there was so much security, but I didn't know that there would be as much as there was. Overall, I'm excited to sit in on a case, and I hope that I get a lot of knowledge from this experience.
You're totally right about how crappy using a GPS can be for sure, and also i'm super jealous that your site is super interesting and i'm sure that you are going to learn a ton of new things about it very quickly and you'll have an awesome project.
I haven't visited my site yet since I don't have a car on campus. But I plan on visiting at the end of this week so I can start my research.
Over our little mini vacation I was able to visit Taunton High twice and observe quite a few things. The teacher appeared to be very stressed with this years prostart team because they don't seem to be prepared at all for states and did not take either of the meetings seriously. Mrs. Gibson was the only person who seemed to know everyone's parts and of the 5 students on the team, only 4 at the most have attended meetings I have attended and it seems to be the boys who do not care as much about the meetings all together. I will continue to observe at least once more before writing my next essay on this topic, though i feel as if I do have enough knowledge on the overall environment.
I will officially make my first visit to my site this weekend and have given the direct go ahead by tthe owner himself of my meeting day. I am excited to make my first visit and am looking foward to observing how they work.
goodluck at your site!
I am observing my aunts daycare I have not visited yet because timing has just not worked but I plan on going this Friday and during spring break. It is a in house day care with one classroom. There are two teachers with about 15 kids. It depends on the day usually with how many people are there. They have naptime from 12:30-3 during that time I plan on talking more with my aunt.
The exciting part about this should prove to be an excellent atmosphere for observation considering you have 15 kids near you who all have abstract views on the current life stage that they are at.
I went to my P.E related class which is a basketball class located here at Bridgewater State University. It’s a cool environment that is more upbeat and exciting then any old High School. The teacher is really cool and is very good at what he does and how he does it. It’s going to be a good place to observe and i’m excited.
For my ethnography project I will be visiting the GameStop video game store just outside of campus. While visiting there for my first time, I will be paying close attention to how Gamestop's employees use visual aids in strategic locations of the store to attract customers in a variety of ways. Purposely observing these things as a customer myself will give me a different perspective and a first hand look at marketing on a commercial level. Seeing as though I am a management major with a marketing concentration, it will be good for me to see how marketing works in the real world. Upon my second visit, I may pull aside some customers and politely question them on their purchase or potential purchase, and I may interview some employees and ask about some of the strategies they use to keep customers walking in the door everyday.
For my project i am observing multiple fifth grade teachers at my old Bourne Middle School. i went into three English classes, a health class, a science and math class. I realized that the kids are a lot more focused in their second period class rather than the end of the day classes because they just want to leave. I personally didn't think that the kids would pay attention at all but, they all volunteer to answer questions and listen very well.
