Week 1- 
Wed Sept 6  Discuss: Introductions, In Class Writing, Syllabus

Week 2- 
Mon Sept 11  Read:  Shitty First Drafts (in readings on website) Discuss: Reading
Wed Sept 13 Read: Rhetorical Analysis Handout from Howe Center (In readings on website) Discuss: reading and reading journals, Essay 1 

Week 3-  
Mon Sept 18 Class Canceled 
Wed Sept 20 Due: Reading Journal 1. Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit) in the Reading Journal Blackboard forum for today by the beginning of class time.  Read: Malcolm X excerpt (in readings on website) and Steve Jobs Commencement Address (in readings on website) Discuss: reading, essay 1, reflection, thesis statements 

Week 4- 
Mon Sept 25 Due: Reading Journal 2. Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit) in the Reading Journal Blackboard forum for today by the beginning of class time. Read: Richard Rodriguez “None of this is Fair” (in readings on website) Discuss: Reading and sensory detail
Wed Sept 27 Due: Essay #1 for Workshop. Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit)  to the Essay #1 workshop forum by the beginning of class time. You must be present in class with your computer and essay posted and participate in workshop to receive credit for your draft.

Week 5- 
Mon Oct 2 Due: Essay #1 Due (group 1 @ 12:20, group 2 @ 1:00) (Post essay to essay 1 final group forum by group meeting time. You must be present for your meeting time (with computer) to read your paper to your group and receive a grade)
Wed Oct 4 Due: Essay #1 Due (group 3 @ 12:20, group 4 @ 1:00) (Post essay to essay 1 final group forum by group meeting time. You must be present for your meeting time (with computer) to read your paper to your group and receive a grade)

Week 6- 
Mon Oct 9 Indigenous People's Day. No Classes. 
Wed Oct 11 Due: Reading Journal 3.Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit) in the Reading Journal Blackboard forum for today by the beginning of class time.  Read: Article on The Liberal Arts (in readings on website)  Discuss: Essay #2, Analyzing the major

Mon Oct 23  Library Visit. Read: “Want to know how to ask questions?” (in readings on website) Discuss: Interview 

Wed Oct 25 Friday schedule of classes. Wednesday classes will not meet. 

Week 9- 
Mon Oct 30 Due: Reading Journal 4. Special topic. Please write a journal about one possible resource you can use for part II of essay 2. Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit) in the Reading Journal Blackboard forum for today by the beginning of class time. Read: Design Principles (in readings on website) Discuss: flyer design, integrating quotes 
Wed Nov 1 Due: Essay #2 for workshop. Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit)  to the Essay #2 workshop forum by the beginning of class time. You must be present in class with your computer and essay posted to receive credit for your draft and to participate in workshop. 

Week 10-

Week 11- 
Mon Nov 13 Class Canceled  
Wed Nov 15 Due: Reading Journal 5 Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit) in the Reading Journal Blackboard forum for today by the beginning of class time.  Read: Excerpt from Becoming (in readings on website). Discuss: Reading, Essay #3 (proposals written in class and posted to Blackboard), small group research meetings

Week 12-
Mon Nov 20  Due: Small Group Research Meetings- bring sources and notes to share. 
                      (group 1 @12:20, group 2@12:40, group 3@1:00, group 4@ 1:20) Discuss:   Outlines
Wed Nov 22 Online Asynchronous Class. Due: (1) FOCUS. Complete at least 2 of the FOCUS surveys on the BSU Career Services site. and then Respond to the Padlet question posted by 11:59pm. (This counts as attendance for class. Failure to complete will be an absence for the day. Be sure to leave your name on your post.) 
Thurs Nov 23-Sun Nov 26 Thanksgiving Break. No Class.

Week 13- 
Mon Nov 27 Class Canceled Due: (1) Outline. Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit) in the Essay #3 Outline Blackboard forum for today by 11:59pm and (2) Reading Journal 6 Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit) in the Reading Journal Blackboard forum for today by the beginning of class time.Read: “When I grow up I want to Be...Childhood Dream” (in readings on website)   Discuss: drafts and reading      
Wed Nov 29 Due: Essay #3 for workshop. Post your Google Doc link (set to anyone with link can edit)  to the Essay #3 workshop forum by the beginning of class time. You must be present in class with your computer and essay posted to receive credit for your draft and to participate in workshop.

Week 14-

Final  Exam:
Final Portfolios are due on Blackboard by the END of final exam time.  NO PORTFOLIOS WILL BE ACCEPTED LATE.
