There are so many people who I could write this profile essay on but the one person who I have decided to write it about would be my brother. He has been my role model since I was younger and still is to this day. He lives a very unique lifestyle and I try to live up to his wisdom every single day. There are so many things he has taught me, and I try to live every day to the fullest. He gives the best advice and I try to live by it and try to pass it on to people who I care about every day. He always tells me to be the best version of myself every day which I do and pass on to my friends. There are so many things that he does that impresses me from where he went to college and everything he has done since he graduated in 2014. Right after he graduated he received a job a couple of months after with a company called Moran. He worked on a tugboat for a year. This was a very difficult year for him because he would work 3-6 weeks at a time and then have 2 weeks off, where he wasn’t on a tugboat. This was a hard time to balance work and a social life. After this he got another job working with Hinkley yachts building power boats on the production floor. Even working so many hours he still has time to travel around the world. This is why I have chosen to write about brother, he is kind and always has time to be a devoted older brother.

Someone who I think would be great to write my profile essay on would be my friend. I've known her for almost my entire life as a friend, and really saw how long she has been struggling. She grew up facing body image issues, health issues, and as a result also issues in her family as well. She overcame a lot of insecurity, and struggling to like the way that she looked, and constantly being bullied and being called names all throughout her school career. Mentally she spent years really trying to build up confidence, and I admired how resilient she was to the terrible things being said about her. In her own family she did not have much support, or anyone to lean on when it became too much to handle, and fought most of her battles on her own. She has also been living with a thyroid disease her whole entire life, and speaks about the struggles of it, and how tiring it can make her, as well as doing physical activities, and manage going to college and work. It changed her health for the worse, but she stays positive about living with it, and does not let it stop her from enjoying her life. Being her friend I've noticed how she has blocked out what other people think about her. Even though she struggles to keep a positive mindset sometimes, it never keeps her down, and she knows she is a confident woman, and she really amazes me how she has tackled all of this in her life.

Emma, choosing your brother as the person to write your essay on is a great choice from what you have said. As a role model, he clearly is a great influence on you, and you will have a lot of material to use for your essay. His motivation to keep working at difficult jobs, and his resilience is something he values a lot, and that is great that you have a lot of interest in his careers, and what he has done after he graduated college. His career path is very individualistic and his own, and a unique story that sounds very interesting. This person being your brother, also clearly must trust you a lot, and will be more than happy to share with you details about his career and his life, which will be very beneficial to writing your profile essay.

Hi Emma! I really like your idea of writing about your brother. From your post I can see that there will be a lot of great life lessons and interesting things that you will be able to write about in your essay. I think also speaking about the places he has been and traveled to could be a really interesting thing to write about and interview him about!

Good luck with your essay!

Really amazing that you came up with your brother to write about. From what I read it looks like you two have a great bond with each other. Could even reflect on some memories that you two have together. Good luck on what looks to be a great essay!

Hi Emma, I like the idea of it and I think you could use his experiences in life to talk about his character and personality and what that means. You could talk about how ambitious he is and how he is inspired and motivated to be the person he is.

One person I would be interested in writing about is my criminal justice professor Michael Bois. Professor Bois, from the first day of class struck me as such an interesting man. He has so much experience in the criminal justice field, and I think it would be really cool to learn about his journey through life, and why he chose to work in the places that he did. I know that he was a cop, he went to the FBI academy (but I’m not sure if he was in the FBI), he has a background in law, teaching, and working at a precious metals company as well. I’m sure there are also other things I don’t know about that he has done for work. I think that because he is such a well rounded, kind, and interesting man, I sparked an interest in his accomplishments. I think he would be a great choice for someone to write about, and I think I would learn so much in the process of interviewing him and writing about him. It may even help me to figure out what I want to do with my life. I have a few other options as well, one being a friend who had to go through something very difficult during her freshamn year of college, and her journey through that. I also have a family friend who works doing undercover detective work. Overall I think I have some great options of people to write about for this first essay.

I think your professor would be an interesting profile to read. I have always found the field of criminal justice field interesting and the stories of people who have had careers in criminal justice usually have fascinating tales to tell. Whether or not he worked for the FBI, a career in that field will definitely generate interesting stories, and since he is a professor, there is a wealth of supplementary interview material from either other students who have had him, or his colleagues who have worked with him either at the school or otherwise who would have interesting things to say about him. You could base your profile off of his career and how it has shaped him as a person and I think it would be very interesting to read as that field usually has a great effect on the way a person sees the world. Overall, a solid selection for a profile.

An interesting person in my life I think would be interesting to profile is the progenitor of my high school’s drama club, Richard Miller. Miller was a student at Duxbury high school many years ago and after graduation he went on to become a theatre teacher and then travel the world learning and watching many different styles of theatre from the Globe theatre in England to various Kabuki theatres in Japan He returned to his alma mater and was shocked to see that the school had yet to create a drama club, something that irked him throughout his high school career. Around the end of the sixties or the beginning of the seventies, Richard Miller decided to create an official Duxbury High School Drama club. He set out to create an official drama club for the kids. It was an arduous process, as he had to deal with the International Thespian Society and create an official chapter, which he did. Duxbury high school was granted chaptership and became International Thespian Troupe 355, now there are troupes being created that go up to the ten thousands or more. Richard has dealt with high school students for many years, celebrating his fiftieth anniversary of thespian membership several years ago. Richard put on many productions of famous plays and eventually became a trusted and respected member of the upper class Duxbury community, but never losing the inherent weirdness that comes with most theatre people, as his house, situated on Duxbury’s main street, would always bring people to say “Oh yeah, that’s Dick Miller’s house”. Richard stayed with Duxbury high school for many years, from 1970 to around the mid 1990’s, where his protégé, Darin MacFarlane took over for him and continues to run the drama club to this day. Richard still makes appearances with the club, usually directing a show during the Spring Festival of plays at the end of the year, although that has slowed after his wife and fellow thespian, Patricia Weatherlow, retired from directing last year after almost 30 years of service herself. I think Richard Miller would be interesting to profile because if there is ever anyone who lived a full life, it is Richard Miller.

I think that it would be really interesting if you did your profile essay on Richard Miller. He has certainly done a lot for the Duxbury community and I'm sure he has a lot of stories to tell. I think it would be great to hear about his life now, or how his past has shaped him and the town. He seems like such an interesting man though, so the different avenues you can explore with this profile are endless.

Duncan,

I think that Richard Miller seems like the perfect person for you to profile. I am purely intrigued by the amount of behind the scenes details he would be able to give you about the process of founding his Duxbury High School Drama Club. Also, he seems like a very influential member of the community so I think that a lot of people would have plenty to say about him, giving a broader scope of who he truly is.

One person that I could write my profile essay on is one of my good friends. She has recently come out to her friends and family that she is dating another female. She received a lot of backlash from her family because she does not identify as a lesbian, and she's never been attracted to another female before. A big reason why her parents don't understand her is because she isn't labeling her sexuality, and I think that can sometimes be hard for other people to process. This has resulted in her dealing with a lot of stress because her family that she was so close to before doesn't completely accept her because she doesn't feel the need to label herself. I feel like it is a big trend in our society to put labels on everyone in order to think we know them, and when someone doesn't fit the mold we are quick to judge what we don't understand.

I think this a great topic for a profiling essay, Kassandra! I agree that our society is too caught up with labels and find it difficult to understand when someone strays from the norm. I think it will be very interesting to hear your friend’s point of view and personal experience with this.
My roommate at Salve Regina was the president of her diversity club in high school and also had a similar experience with one of her friends. My roommate was super accepting, and always says “love is love”. She truly believes that labels are a waste of time and that if someone comes along and you are attracted to them, then to go for it. She taught me so much and opened my eyes to the topic. I come from a very small town, and there is little diversity. My roommate, on the other hand, came from a bigger town and experienced things I had never even thought about. This was one of the topics we had discussed when living together last year. I am inspired by people who follow their hearts and their dreams without labeling themselves. I think your essay will be great, and I am truly inspired by your friend for following what she believes in!

At first, I struggled to think of a person that would fit the upcoming profiling essay assignment. I had a few ideas, but none of my initial brainstorming seemed to be strong enough or easily-accessible. Finally, after thinking for quite some time, it came to mind: I will write the essay on Sue Furtado. Sue is a mom of two, a wife, a professional, and a animal lover. I know Sue through family friends, but more recently I know her because of our love of rescue pups.
Sue transformed her love and passion for dogs into an inspirational effort to save dogs other than her own. She has had various rescue dogs of her own, but Sue decided that she wanted to have a larger impact. So, she became the founder of a nonprofit known as WAGS, or Waiting Animals Getting Support.
Sue began dedicating all of her free time to researching nonprofits, fundraising ideas, how to reach out to the community, and how she could have the largest impact that she could on what she is truly passionate about. So far, Sue has held donation-entry events, organized raffles, provided volunteer work at Gillette Stadium, and set up booths at various local fairs to teach the community about her mission.
Sue is raising money to pull abused and neglected dogs and other animals from high-kill shelters and place them in local foster homes until they can find a forever family. Sue has a rescue dog of her own named Ollie, and hopes to find homes for shelter dogs across the nation.
I find Sue’s story extremely intriguing and inspiring. In December, I adopted a rescue dog from the hurricanes in Florida. She has become such an essential part of my life, and I hope to help save other dogs like Toma from abuse, neglect, and harm. I also find Sue’s story so inspiring because of her ambition to start her own nonprofit. I have always been interested in nonprofit work, and hope to someday develop my own nonprofit for children with disabilities.
I am so excited to learn more about Sue’s story and write my profiling essay on such an interesting topic.

Ashley, I think writing about sue is such a great idea. Sue has such an inspiring story and I love the message that she is trying to put out. She seems very inspirational with her story and how she transformed her passion into a dream helping save dogs from natural disasters. I too have a love for dogs and think it is very important for people like her to save them from disasters. I am very curious to find more about sue and her story throughout your essay. You will have a lot to talk about and could also relate it to your story of rescuing your dog as well. I didn’t know that she has had booths set up at Gillete, that is such a good place to market. I can’t wait to learn more about her story and how she has helped save dogs.
Good Luck with your Essay!

For my profile, I am currently thinking about interviewing the owner of a pizza place from my town, Frank. He owns and runs Excellent Pizza in Somerset, MA and has been in business for as long as I can remember. He is the cousin of the owner of the place I work at, so I think it would be interesting to talk to him about how the two of them got into the pizza business and how they got to where they are. Frank is from Greece, so another thing that could give me a lot of information and material would be why he left Greece, how his journey from there to here has gone and some of the behind the scenes about how much his life has changed. Besides this, the logistics of owning a business, controlling cost and financial issues, and creating a product are all things that interest me. I am especially intrigued to know how much his pizza recipe has changed over time, as well as the menu and the items that they serve if they have changed them.
I also want to talk to him about his family, because it is a family owned place and his wife and children all work there. I think the dynamic in their restaurant and how his family works together with people they employ could be an interesting topic to explore. Frank is a very welcoming man and he is friendly with me whenever I come in. I think he could be a good profile because I feel like he would be receptive to allowing me, a customer, to pick his brain and construct this profile. He loves to talk with his customers, so I am inclined to believe that he would be just as willing to do a sit down interview or two with me at some point after closing or during a slow period of the work day.

If I had to choose one person to write this profile essay on it would have to be my mother. She has not only been just a great mom to me, but she is my best friend as well. Her and I share the same interests and she is the reason why I am who I become to this day. She gives me the best advice in the world and has also done so much for me over the years. Ever since I was 7 years old her and I have been Red Sox season ticket holders. Being able to watch so many games at the place I love to be at creating a very special bond with her. She got me away from all the high school drama and kept me out of trouble. I could go on and on about my mother. We share so many memories together and that is why I would write a profile essay on her.

This is so touching. Not everyone gets to share such a close bond with either of their parents. For you to have such a cordial relationship with your mum is wonderfull. Now i guess its on you to put in work in your studies and continue to make her proud.

One person I am interested in writing about is my boyfriend, Connor. I know the subject is very close to me, but he has some amazing stories to tell. Connor is a very strong person which is due to him constantly moving as a child, and learning to adjust to new settings over and over again. He finally graduated from Bridgewater State in December, and has moved, once again, to California. He has some unique views to life having lived in such a variety of places such as the south, the east coast, the west coast, and even at sea on a boat by Iceland.
I know the subject very well, and can devote a lot of time to understanding these stories he tells me, and I have easy access to have conversations with him.

If i had to choose one person to write about it would have to be my boss.He is such a gentle soul to the extent that on numerous occasions our new staff have ended up engaging him in hearty conversation and sometimes end up shooting themselves in the leg. With time he ended up trusting us with his personal space or life where the staff who have known him longer comes to realization that he is a single dad and with the mountain of workload that he handles, its remakable how is also able to creat so much time for his son and handle his parental responsibility with such ease.

One person I could write my profile essay on is my grandma because she is always telling me to be confident and believe in myself. My grandma has always been there to support and encourage me to become a better person. She is like my best friend and she always tells me to never give up on my goals in life. Also she always tells me that my education is more important than anything else. I love my grandma because she supports me through everyday no matter the circumstances. She tries her best to guide me in the right direction in order to be successful and have a positive future.

The person Im interested in writing about is my co worker. She has such an interesting life and has done so much in such a short amount of time. Shes lived in Australia, Boston and Hawaii all within a few years times spand. She has such an optimistic attitude and outgoing personality that really made me want to ask about her experiences throughout life and the positives and negatives aspects of adventuring outside her social norms. Its so brave of her to go travel by herself right out of highschool and living her life to the fullest.

I did my profile piece on Nick Jordan, a classmate who I've known for a little bit. Since he joined the newspaper, I've been getting to know him more. What interested me about him is his personality and his interest in creating and helping people. I can tell he really likes building connections with people. He also likes creating writing and works for the radio station here on campus, where I'll also be interning this semester. Nick is the Music Director, and the opening to my profile story is about my experience meeting him there.

There were many people I could have written my profile essay on, and while some of them seemed irrelevant they were included in my thoughts. My first idea had been to write about a professor I had freshman and sophomore year who left an impact on me and changed my views on communications, media, and film. But, there was a problem with scheduling and we were unable to find a time to meet and discuss the prompt of the profile so I last minute had to pick someone else. I chose someone who's very close to me and who has had a lot of life struggles that have made her the independent woman she is today. Writing this essay only enlarged her strengths and showed how determined she is to not let her demons define her. I was very pleased with writing my essay on her.

I decided to choose my grandfather (mom's dad) to do my profile essay on. I chose him because he has a story that I feel is different and needs to be heard. He is 66 years old, living with his cat Monty in his new one bedroom. After being married for over 30 years he was "pushed out" and discovered as being gay. He has had many struggles since he was a kid and being gay wasn't necessarily accepted by those around him. The scare of coming out to family and friends was large and wished heavily on him. He has dealt with many different mental health issues and continues to struggle with different things including finding where he belongs in the gay world and learning to get used to his previous life being turned upside down. It was very exciting to get to talk to him and learn more about his life and experiences.
