For this post I would like you to find an photo online that appeals to you. It can be of anything. Share the link to the photo with us and write a short paragraph about why the image strikes you? What about the composition and/or associated story is important to you? What do you notice about the photographers choices?

Our goal here is to continue thinking about the power of images from both the photographer and viewers perspectives. Do not forget to respond to a classmate.

The image has some bias in it because that is home to me and I obviously have a special connection with it. The feel of it is kinda of a cool dark and bright feel to it with the darkness of the clouds not fully outweighing the beach sand. I like the vertical photo choice as it makes you feel amerced in the pathway to the beach. The water still has a interesting reflective look that appeals to the eye for sure.

It’s great that you felt a special connection with the image. I believe it allows you to see and feel every emotion. It also allows you to see the beauty in it and the overall message of the image.

Hey Jesse,
I actually don't think that this is not bias at all-you obviously have a special connection to it and I think that's great. I so enjoy pictures that have an ’’eye appeal to it. I think every picture should do that because if not, it doesn't make the picture interesting.

I picked this image because it has a strong and powerful message. A message that Black people are fighting for freedom, liberation, and justice. They raise their fists as a symbol of Black power, unity, and strength. This image is representing the Black Lives Matter movement. A movement that fights against violence and racism towards Black people. As a Black woman, this image is important to me because it’s telling a story about my people. I love that the photographer made the background blurry to emphasize the importance of the fist. I also love that the image is in black and white because it allows the audience to see and feel every emotion. Overall, I think this image captured the movement beautifully.

Hi Arsi, I agree that your picture is very powerful. Race is definitely still a problem in modern times. I feel that the problem has decreased and will continue to decrease as our generation grows up, and has kids. I feel that most of the problem lies in the older generations. Hopefully one day, racism will be an afterthought.

This is a screenshot of a video I recently saw of a nearly fatal accident in Phenoix, Arizona. A couple was crossing the street pushing a stroller when a fast moving car blew a red light. Just feet before the car would've struck those people and most likely killed them, a second car crossing the intersection just so happened to be in the right place at the right time. Colliding with the car who most likely would've killed these people. The couple pushing the stroller was untouched. It was a true miracle that no one got seriously injured/killed. This photo was just a reminder to me to not take life for granted. We get so caught up in the moment with everyday life that we fail to realize the bigger picture, our health and wellbeing is paramount to all of the small things in life we perceive as our "problems". Even on our worst days, things could always be worse. This picture just served as a reminder for me to appreciate every single day, because our perfectly normal day today, is someone else's last day.

Hey Andrew, I can really relate to your connection with this video. I am always reminding myself to not take life for granted because you never know what day is your last. Sometimes I get so caught up on things and always try to take a step back and remind myself that things could be a lot worse. So glad that the family is okay. That was scary.

I chose this image because this is a current problem we are having in our world. This image is just an example of a small area in the world where there is gathered trash sitting in the ocean surrounding a boat. Pollution is something that is so serious but is taken lightly. If this problem we are having with pollution continues in future years, studies have shown our planet to be covered almost completely trash. Its time to start cleaning up and taking this situation seriously. What stood out to me about this picture was exactly how much pollution is surrounding the boat. The photographer did a great job capturing a picture of the pollution by making the boat the focus of the picture, along with the surrounding noticeable pollution grouped around the boat.

I chose this picture for a few reasons. First of all, I absolutely love sunsets. I think there is no better gradient than the sky and the reflections on the water and clouds is simply phenomenal. Second, I really like the way the image draws you in, inviting you to come watch the sun set. Third, the subtle details are especially intriguing to me, such as the sailboat in the background and the reflections in the small pools of water. To sum up, I really enjoy the peaceful, inviting nature of this picture.

This image captured my attention because it highlights how privileged we are in America to have the resources, and opportunities that we have. In the U.S we can turn on the foset and get water but in this picture a little boy with no shoes is carrying heavy gallons of water by himself. I think the photographer intentionally took this Photo as a candid shot to show people the reality of how some people in this world live without any filters, the photographer let the picture speak for itself.

I think you are very right. The photographer chose a special angle to present the extent of poverty in Africa. The picture tells us they do not have beautiful clothes even cannot keep warm. They also have the problem of shortage of the water. So the boy has to carry heavy gallons of water by himself.

Meredith, this photo made me feel sad and empathy. It made me more grateful for all the resources that are easily accessible to us. Since it is so easy to get water for us, we don't really see how fortunate we are to be able to have those things.

This picture is a capture of a video which recorded by a passerby who encountered the fire of Notre Dame de Paris. The video records the process of how the fire ruined the gorgeous architecture. I think that the editor picks up this one because it is the moment that the top fell down. I believe that anyone who sees this picture will feel heartbroken for the disappearing of the treasure. We all know that there is a line in the movie Before Sunset says, “But you have thought that Notre Dame will be gone one day”. No one has thought that before, but it did happen, which is a very sad thing. Everyone who sees the picture will feel regretful about it. It will also be a warning to us that we should pay more attention to the historical treasure and protect them in a proper way.

The image of this photo captured my attention for a lot of different reasons, but one of the reasons specifically was the scenery. I have been to the Newport Mansions in RI before and I absolutely loved it! Another reason why I fell in love with that place so much was because of the structure of the buildings and some of the historical ties within them. I loved get the chance to spend the day there and visit and would gladly do it all over again. One of the things that drew me to the image I chose is because of the bight sunshine looking over one of the buildings I chose in Newport and the angle that it was shot at. The picture is also not dark and gloomy - the picture is very warm and has a very welcoming presence.

This image is important to me because this is the city i was raised and grew up in, Newbedford MA. The place I'm from reflects how I act and the strive I have to become successful, growing up in Newbedford I have seen the worse of the worst. I chose this particular photo because the photographer did a great job showing the beautiful image of Newbedford. This is a flic of the downtown part of Newbedford. What people don't know about this picture is just 2 miles south and west of downtown is a not so pretty place as this picture can make Newbedford seem. This is the city that molded me to become the person I am today.

I chose a picture of the outside of a restaurant in Connecticut called the Courthouse bar and grill. I found this cool place this weekend and decided to stop by to have dinner. It was in this small little town that had very few people around, but it was lit up with Christmas lights (I should've taken a picture myself). This restaurant/ bar was actually an old courthouse and it had different pictures and boards with different sayings on the walls. The menu had a bunch of legal references that I didn't understand. If you're ever in Connecticut it was a cute little place to stop by.

I choose this picture of an hourglass. On the top of the hourglass is the environment and nature where it is thriving and healthy. On the bottom half of the hourglass is a city. This shows that the environment is being destroyed and turned into large cities. The hourglass represents the little time we have to save the environment. The top of the hourglass represents the time that is running out meaning that the environment and nature is soon going to be destroyed.

I chose this photo because it shows everyone who sees this what the true definition of unity is. These players know there will be some form of repercussions for kneeling during the national anthem, but yet they do it together. This is. a form of protest to stand up against police brutality and discrimination of people of color. I believe this shows how strongly people feel about their beliefs and how. people can use their platform to spark a movement. Looking at this picture you can tell each and everyone of those men have a common belief and they will stand and fight together, and I feel as though the meaning behind this photo is actually very powerful.

Here is my comment for Kailyn's blog, it won't let me comment for some strange reason.

Hi Kailyn, I agree with you that the amount of pollution in this world is absurd. Yet, most people don't seem to actually care or do anything to prevent it and at this rate there is going to be nothing that can save our planet.

I chose this photo because it is very striking to me. The disposing of trash in our environment has put an extreme amount of pollution into the air. The toxins from all the bottles, cans, plastics, and other trash products gets absorbed by the ground and later emitted into the air. This has caused serious climate change and there is not a lot being done about it. This photo looks like their is a lot of trash but there are trillions of pounds of trash being dumped onto the ground every year. That photo only depicts a tiny portion of the amount of landfill there really is.
